Supposedly it is true. However, I believe that Ruger is using the 222 Rem case (not the .223) which has a reduced neck for the .204 bullet. Ruger is originally loading this cartridge with a very light bullet (30-33gr) which should produce muzzle velocities way past 4,000 ft/sec.

This new cartridge should grow faster than the 17HMR in my opinion. After all, we all need another centerfire cartridge; don't we?

I posted the whole press release over at RugerForum.com or go to the Ruger site and read it along with the press release on the 40th ann. ed. of the 10/22.  Both of these new models are said to be available in the first couple months of 2004.  Granted these are just new chamberings and new stcoks, but how can they have these out so easily but not have any Gold Lables anywhere?

A new barrel diameter and different chamber reamers are a whole different animal than an entirely new firearm.  If Ruger wanted to outsource for the barrels and tooling for a cartridge already developed by someone else (Hornady), they could let the gun rags know and by the time they went to press the rifles could be in the supply chain in some quantity by the time people started calling their dealers.
