Dave: I like the foot rest idea. Here is a couple things I did do mine: I bought some nylon eye straps and attachced them to the gunnels every 12 " on both sides. They provide a nice place to lash gear to. On the ones closest to my seat I keep my digital camera in a water proof box clipped to one on the left. On my right I keep one of those fish jaw gripper things for dealing with toothy fish I may want to release without injuring myself.
I also put an old Eagle fishfinder I had laying around. I rigged the transducer to shoot through the hull under my seat. I mounted the screen to the right side on one of those R.A.M. mounts. for the battery I bought one of those little rechargeable 12 volt batterys from Cabela's. I used a water tight ammo can for the battery box. I drilled a hole in the side to run the wires through and then sealed it up with caulk. I glued a divider in the can to keep the battery from flopping around. I keep this clipped to the gunnel too. I also put my car keys and wallet and cell phone inside a small dry bag inside the ammo can.

Behind the seat I have a milk crate with  2 pieces of PVC pipe mounted inside it to act as rod holders. Good place to keep extra rigged rods and tackle out of the way but accessable.

If I just want to go out for a paddle I leave all this stuff at home though.

I also rigged up an anchor trolley but I havent perfected it yet-still needs work ;D

I will post a picture the next time I take it out fishing and have it all rigged up.
Hi NSA! Can you see how many fingers I am holding up?

You guys have me all fired up to get ready for some warm weather floating.  Last year early fall we took 3 days and went down the Yellowstone half way between Gardner and Livingston MT.  We went down that far as I have a Coleman Scanoe and we had a little bit water that wasn't smooth, couple of waves came up over the bow, had to do some bailing after that.  Great time, had camp set up in the National Forest campsite, drop a truck off down stream, drive back up and hit the water.  Some fantastic fishing that trip, caught the biggest rainbow of my life on that trip.  Then 2 years ago, same friends and I set up hunting camp 2 miles down river for whitetails.  3 trips to ferry camp in a 10' jonboat and my Scanoe.  We were all amazed at how much gear I could run in that thing.  2 1/2 hp outboard would move me upstream at a fair clip, just had to keep weight in the front to keep the nose in the water or the wind would give me fits.  Gonna have to do that again this year.  DP

Please up date us--also anxious to hear about your trip.

I used to travel long distances in Canada (mostly Ontario) using open canoes.  From Matice, Ontario, down (North)the Missinabbi River to the Moose River, to James Bay and on to Moosonee was perhaps one of the best trips.  Twelve days and around 300 miles if I remember right.  Trips like these took lots of planning for enough food, etc., to last--fishing was generally very good, so that was a help.  But just the overall logistics took some time.  Those were fun trips, though, and worth the effort.

Hope to hear of your adventure.

Best of luck, Arch
