Have you tried a long wire yet? I have an antenna guidebook I got from Radio Nederland in the early seventies when I was into it. If I can find it , I will make you a photocopy  Mike

If you have room up to 100 feet ,that is a quarter wave.
That is more than enough for most receivers ,remember your looking for 50 to 75 Ohms resistance on the Antenna.
Any Television two strand cable like you would use on an Antenna is good for this.
A large ,T,, is used a lot of times .50 feet on eiather side.

The TV wire goes to the antenna on either side of the T.
A better way is to tie one end to your water pipes ,and the other end to the middle of the T ,and use both ends of it to receive.
The wire of the T doesn't even need to be Coated ,it will not make any difference.
Make sure your long wire isnt grounded ,use some insulators where you tie it off so it isnt touching anything to ground.
Long wires are directional , east and west they will pick up north and south better.

North and south will pick up Europe and the Pacific rim better.
You can spend a lot of money on an antenna  ,and it still will not work any better than a long wire.
How high up you go is the key here ,as it always has been.
But be careful here ,look into your codes on how high is legal.

Depending what frequency you want to listen to.
A inverted V for the low end like 40 mtrs down a vertical works just about as well .
40 mtrs up a horizontal dipole or get some 300 ohm take 96" of' TV lead and split one wire in the center and twist the ends together and run a 300 ohm tied to the ends you cut and run that to the receiver.
Take 234/frequency in MHZ that will give you a 1/4 wave.
or take and use about 10' per side and that will get you close to most, and still small enough to put up in the attic or hang it on the curtain rod if the XYL will let you :)

Would that work under a metal roof ?
