Planting by the signs???
« on: December 30, 2008, 07:31:51 PM »

I've asked several different places and for some reason I have trouble finding people who garden by the signs.

I was wondering if anyone here pays attention to them?

I belive in going by the signs to do a lot of things but somtimes the weather doesn't cooperate, therefor I usually plant when I can rather than when I should.

The signs are generally tied to the moons gravitational effect on the earth. As highwayman eluded to. When you plant at a full moon the effect is greatest (highest tide). Scientific study shows more moisture is retained at the first few inches of soil than any other time. More moisture for the seed to germinate. Easier than trying to plant off of the almanac and free information instead of paying for their lunar table.

I always buy an almanac that clearly states the planting days for above ground crops, root crops, transplant days, etc. My mom know all that stuff well enough that she looks at each sign and knows if it's a barren or fruitful sign.

I almost always plant according to the signs.I did an expermint
years ago where i planted cucumbers from the same pack of seed,
one row with the signs, second row three days later with bad sign.
Row 1 had normal blooms and cukes, second row had more than usual
blooms and almost no cukes.Rows were side by side and everything
done together.
Just my take on it.

Never done much gardening but I'm a firm beliver in hunting around the new moon. 5 days before and 5 days after is best.

The moon afects the tides and we dig clams on minus tides. It also affects the best sport fishing times.
