PETA Letter
« on: March 24, 2009, 03:52:45 PM »
Just heard this on the radio.

People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals have sent a letter to the Commander of the Alaska State Troopers asking that he look into the deaths of two dogs in the Idatarod Trail Sled Dog Race.  They feel the musher should be charged with animal cruelty.

This is utterly ridiculous.  Every precaution is taken to assure the health of all the dogs.  Those dogs are the best trained and looked after dogs in the world.  They are real athalites and are looked at by veterinarians before and at many of the check points along the race.  When you have 1200 dogs running in the race you are going to have a few that have a genetic defect that is undetectable get through.  It's no ones fault, it just happens.  Dogs are out there doing what they like to do, happy and running along.  Suddenly ones heart just gives out and it falls over dead.  Think how that musher feels.  He has just lost a friend, someone he has worked with for a long time, sometimes years.  A dog he has nurtured and coached through good times and bad.  He has a large investment in time and love in that animal.  It is devestating to him or her.

And PETA is using this as a way to put a negative spin on the race, in hopes of getting public sentiment against the race to shut it down.

Lance Macky won again just for those that have not heard.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Thats too bad about the tree huggers stirring things up. The thing that don't make sence to me is the same group that does not want us to control the wolf population are usually pre-choice. They place no value on human life and elevate the animal kingdom above human life.

It always amazes me that PETA folks cannot imagine "others" caring for their animals as much as they might. I met a dog named Cisco in a little town in Iraq; his canines had been replaced by titanium. Every day he risked his life doing what he enjoyed with his partner - sniffing out IEDs. Saved lots of lives, and brought a lot of good cheer to all of us who missed our own animals back in the US. Cisco was a well loved ... and fed ... dog. Cisco retired after I believe 6 tours in Iraq.

Every dog I've ever had preferred working alongside somebody, over being worshipped. Cats like to be worshipped - let PETA have the cats. :)

I remember PETA showing up at a 4H livestock auction at a county fair I attended in Michigan.

Bunch of kids, learning the value of hard work and responsibility, have their day ruined by some idiots protesting livestock being auctioned off???

They weren't as well received by the crowd or media as they were hoping.

Believe the Sheriff had to escort them from the fair grounds.......

for their own safety.

I have ongoing beaver problems on my property. Let's see...do I sacrifice the trees or the beavers? That should be a dilemma for tree huggers/PETA folk.

The one thing I always wanted to see is this. I would like to have one of the members of peta, go directly to St.Jude's reasearch hospital in Memphis. Look directly into the face of a 8 or 9 year old that is suffering from cancer, and tell that little boy or girl, that a reasearch animal is more important than they are. That the animal has as much right as they do. I know it'll never happen, as they don't want to face reality. They think we should all sit around the campfire with the polar bears and drink coke.  gypsyman

Congratulations to Mr. Macky for winning the Iditarod.
It's unfortunate that some dogs were lost during the race but it does happen.
I don't see the PETA folks getting involved when other athletes die during a competition. That's exactly what the dogs are... athletes.

I believe that PETA is not interested in anything but a power trip.  For a look at how they treat animals

I think anyone who works with animals has much more respect for them than these people do.

As I have said many times before IT IS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY.  They drop this law suite to make it look legitimate, then when they lose or it is thrown out of court they go out to the public with all this information and ask for donations to fight this injustice for the animals.  One video with all this pleading information will bring in 500% of the cost to make and distribute it.  They can make them very deceiving and really pull on the old heartstrings, as a few of you know, and I won't mention any names.  They just have to line up their ducks so to speak before making the video.  Next winter just before, and during the race you will see short videos showing the Iditarod trail and dead dogs.  They will be asking for donations to help fight this cruel and killing race, just to make some men rich.

High level Peta members are the ones getting rich.
