Been using Thompson's Blue Angle (hard lube) for all my CAS rounds. Does a nice job and I like the way it is hard to the touch after cooling. Doesn't attract dust and can be stored in bulk (bullets don't stick together).
Well anyway, I have a bunch of the soft lubes that come with the Lyman 450/4500 sizer/luber. So I figure I'll mix it all together and add a stick or two of the Blue Angle to harden the stuff up a bit and won't be wasting the soft lubes.
Good idea BUT.............
I came away with about 7 sticks of the stuff. It is a bit sticky (not as bad as the soft stuff) but will still have to be heated to be applied. Have used about 2 of the sticks and will be happy when they are gone. Just too sticky for me. Bullets still stick togehter if I'm not careful. Probably will be OK to work with in the winter but it's summer here in the Republic and running about 95* along the coast.

Is it worth it? Depends on the shooter.

My slugs use so much lube that I cain't afford to feed em commercial lube! :shock:

I mix BP lube 50-50 Beeswax - crisco. It saves a lot and keeps the fouling soft.

When yer into hard wax lubes, ya probably have to go commercial, not real lsure. I would think tumble lube would be the best smokieless soluton.

For those of us that shoot the Holy Black and especially those of us that inject as much as a half turn of the #450 crank per boolit its a no brainer. Mix yer own lube in big batches and get better lube at a large savings. Next to casting your own boolits out of free lead; its the biggest savings in the whole process.

Guess I get a kick out of seeing the bullets go in the luber/sizer and come out the correct diameter and the groove(s) filled with lube.
The "new" stuff is not bad enough to throw out--I'll keep using it until it's gone. Will take awhile but not a problem.

Yee Haw!!
Finally finished with all this mixed up lube. Decided about 2 weeks ago that it had to go. So been casting and lubing my 250 gr 45LC bullets--they have the biggest lube grooves and therefore will use the most--Momma didn't raise no dummy.
Have about 100 lbs of these bullets now but got back to the Thompson's Blue Angel coming out of the luber/sizer so life is good.
Since lead doesn't good bad, like milk, I will be using them for the next year or so till they're gone and then this experiment will be over and done.

It if isn't broken mess with it anyway....
