Contender ready for Goats (antelope) !!
« on: September 28, 2003, 04:56:33 PM »
Finished final load testing this afternoon. Off the bench the 7MM Bellm (7 X 444) will deliver 3 shot groups into 3 inches at 200 yds. Will be shooting 120 gr Bal Tips over 42 grs of IMR 4895 for 2460 fps (avg). Put an old Uncle Mike's barrel band with swivel stud on and attached a sitting Snipepod to it. I could hit the 200yd 8" gong from sitting position with the Pod. SO the gun can shoot!! Now I have to do my part starting 1/2 hr before sunrise next Saturday.

Sounds like you are having similar results to my 308 Bellm.  5 shots into 3.5 inches at 200 yards.  125 Nos BT over 51.5 Win 760.  Just under 2600 fps.  It is dead on at 200 and 3" high at 100.  I'll be leaving for Wyoming this Friday!  Are you as pumped as I am?!

You may want to get some practice out to 300 yards.  It could come in handy.  Also, the grass may be short enough to permit the use of a daypack for a rest.
Safety first

Thanks for the words of encouragement. The terrain is rolling hills and wide open prairie. I'll be staying to the hills for this hunt. From the previous years experience should be able to get a shot at about 100 yds early in the morning and later in the evening. Grass???? You mean that green stuff that grows between the prickly pear? I am hoping to use my pack if I can, the Snipepod is insurance. The catastrophic insurance is a 6-284 long range bolt rifle. I know I can make very long shots with that rig but hopefully won't need it. This is private land and the antelope should not be too riled up. I've seen public land where if they saw a truck on the horizon they were gone ASAP.
