Babe Winkleman
« on: March 28, 2009, 04:35:34 AM »
I see in the add's here that I could possibly win an Ontario fishing trip with Babe Winkleman.

I didn't know that he was still around although he was on the local channels here around 15yrs ago or so.

I thought that he was notorious for (posing) as he would tighten up his shoulders and forearms all while saying goodfish goodfish goodfish goodfish...

Babe often had someone with him in the boat and if that (someone) caught a bigger fish, Babe would go from animated to deadpan as he would just remark, yeah, nice one.

I guess that there is no point at all to this post other than I thought that Babe was a Pilgrim and I did not like his outdoor series because he hated to be upstaged.

A few years ago my brother ended up sitting next to Babe on a flight. Babe struck up a conversation with my brother becasue he saw him reading a Field & Stream mag. Anyway, long story short being that my brother is a huge fisherman, the conversation lasted the entire flight. Babe gave my brother his business card and offered to take him fishing/hook up the next time he came to MN.

He said Babe came across as just a genuine guy who just enjoys the outdoors. He said he did not mention his TV career at all. That topic only came up after Babe gave him hus business card and it was obvious the guy was a pro in the field. That did not happen untill they parted ways after they off loaded from the plane...My brother had no idea who Babe was until that moment.

Glanceblamm,

Babe is not just into fishing anymore either. He has a show on one of the sportsman's channels that features many hunting trips with his family.

Ones that I did like to watch were Bill Dance or Roland Martin.

Most of my practical advice came from Rick Clunn.

My favorite video (vcr at the time) were the Linder brothers and their how to on mapping out points and the contact point.
Those Linder bro's kind of liked to blow their own horn but they knew what they were saying.

Babe has a show on the Outdoor channel, hunts with bow and gun. He also fishes for other than Black bass, unlike some that catch the same black
bass over and over. Some of those guys must have very good live wells.

I don't watch the hunting channels much anymore, but when I do, I guess my favorites would be Jim Shockey's and Keith Warren's shows.

Or so I thought...If you find the contact points though (the longest narrowest bars that drop into the deepest water) You will catch fish.
They do say that 10% of the fishermen catch 90% of the fish.
