i was told recently that NEF would start this spring making the handi-rifle in 35 whelen. does anyone know if this is so?

I just got off the phone with NEF (after a 25 minute "elevator music" wait. they are going to produce the barrel in 35 whelen. production was supposed to begin in january, but has been pushed back. but the lady on phone said the definitaly will be in production this year.

I just got clarification on the 35 Whelen production from my Remington contact, it has not been approved as the testing is not complete. Whom ever is saying that it's in production is apparently confused, the 35 Remington isn't there yet either.

i called h & r this afternoon, and the lady in customer service says that although production had not started on making the 35 whelen barrels, that it would be produced this year. she didn't know why production hadn't started, but that she was told that it would be so. production was to have begun in january, then february. now no date given. i'm really having doubts that it will begin. anyone know anything??? i live in Mississippi and the 35 whelen in the handi is legal for primitive weapons season. i know it's a long time til hunting season, but i imagine the turn-around on the barrels will take time. almost everyone i know who now has the 45/70 plans on getting a 35 whelen when available.

I still see a 35 Whelen on the shelf at one of my favorite "candy" stores. Have come close to buying it and then see posts about them not going "BANG".

I really do like to hear bang when I squeeze the trigger, makes me happy.

Some body needs to talk me into this.

As it seems Remington has dropped the SPR line of stuff from what I have seen.
So with that considered it would be awesome if they went straight after TC cal line ups and made more choices of calibers in our humble and affordable Handi like in, 7.62x39, 35Rem, 35 Whelen, 17 Rem Fireball...etc
We have been begging for the scraps of the former NEF, but now that Remingtons $$ is behind it it could mean good changes.
Thats my 2cents, at least thats what I hope anyway

Tim my friend in my reasoning...right or wrong... it is justified?
I mean I haven't seen any more Ad's for the Spartan /SPR line, and I am sure they have dropped the 799 and 798 lines..
So why not open this aspect up to it's full extent with the main comp. to TC in the single shot break open interchangeable barrel firearm market...

I've read on another forum that Remington dropped the SPRs due to being in direct competition with H&Rs, but I don't know that's a fact, just more internet speculation probably, but it makes sense.

Engineering work is scheduled to begin in April, it has to be tested and approved before they can put it into production, so I wouldn't expect it anytime soon.

sounds like if i'm going to shoot a 35 whelen this fall primitive weapon season, i will have to buy an encore. more than double the cost of the handi.

I should know by the end of April when production will begin, so don't get in too much of a hurry to spend money on that Encore.
