I purchased a 22-250 barrel,Encore at gun show last week and when I tried to put it on I found the fwd. screw hole for front stock was buggered. Can anyone tell me the thread size and would a bottom tap fix this? Thought I would ask before I screwed up the screw hole. lol thanks Pat

Mine are 8-40, I think I'd start with a taper tap, then switch to the bottom tap.

I am thinking that some of these are 6-32? Larry

Dunno what Contenders are, don't have one, that may be what you're thinking of Larry, but both of my Prohunter barrels are 8-40. The thread below refers to G2 barrels as having 10-32 threads and muzzleloader as ¼-28.

Thanks for your answers. I think quickdtoo has my answer. Local hardware store does not carry 8-40 I'll try midway. Thanks

Brownell's has them, they're listed in the link I posted, fast $4.95 shipping last time I ordered, they have the taps too.
