Most versitile and accurate 22 i have every owned ( well except against my old Marlin 7000 ) , they are tuff as nails and like an energizer bunny they just keep going ..
And while my M7000 marlin was more accurate then my old ( first ruger) 10/22 , you can replace the barrel on it for a carbon fiber bull barrel or a stainless bull for when he gets older or you want to make smaller groups then that rifle already makes , That is the way my father has both of his configured and he plinks at 100 yards with his to good avail.. So he is very happy with the bull barrel option.
I Second " Run dont walk" and get it. I'm lucky in my area to find an old beater 10/22 (stock) for under $200
