Gun breaks open after firing on its own?
« on: March 29, 2009, 12:25:34 PM »
My girlfrind bought a used .223 nef this weekend. Looks to have a 20 inch heavy barrrel. 2 out of 3 shots it broke open after firing. Looks like it hasn't been shot much. Any ideas? Thanks

Welcome!! Read the Handi Basics 101 sticky and the Pop Open medicine link in the FAQs and Help sticky.

FWIW, H&R doesn't make a 20" heavy barrel 223, they make a 20" Superlight, 22" standard contour(some mistake it for a heavy barrel) and a 22" bull barrel, as well as a 24" bull and fluted, so yours has been cut short by someone if it is indeed just 20" long and a heavy contour. Barrels are measured full length, end to end.  ;)

I didn't measure end to end, Guessed where shell ended. I will remeasure. Thanks. And I am now going to read the suggested material. Again, Thanks...
