Cherokee Run???
« on: June 03, 2009, 06:53:53 AM »
Headed to Cherokee Run in Chesterfield, SC the middle of this month for a Hog hunt with Tom Nauuman.  I met Tom at a outdoor show a few years ago and his hunt sounded pretty good.  Supposed to be hunting free ranging hogs from a tree stand over bait, so we'll see how it goes.  Wondered if anyone had any expience there?  We don't have the critters here in Virginia and I've been looking at going to either Tennessee or South Carolina forever....just now finally gettin' 'round to it.  Sounds like a good excuse to get in a little extra time with my 45-70 Contender or .45 Colt Bisley....Yeah!!!!  Any advice or comment for a first time hogger is more than welcome.  Thanks!!  :D ;D :D Walt

I hunt with a different outfit in Chesterfield every year. (www.hawgsrus.net  Great bunch of guys!) Lots of hogs. I mean lots! Best time is late afternoon and take a Therma-Cell!!! I have used .45-70, .270, .30-30 rifles, and a .500 S&W handgun. Shots ranging from 185 yds. to 30 yds. The guys at Cherokee should have different stand sights for different yardages. Good Luck and have lots of fun!!!

Did I mention a Therma-Cell?!?!

Thanks, Coop4u2c.  Everybody I've talked to(8-10 people) including the guys at Cherokee Run have advised the Therma cell first thing.  A couple of folks have told me to take two...put one under the seat in my stand and one just over my head.  The skeeters MUST be BAD!!!  They are saying lots of hogs to go with the skeeters though.

OK, Now I been there, done that, and bought the T-shirt.  Nice place, good facilities,  great folks, what looks to be good hunting areas(over 2000 acres total under lease) and lots of sign that many hogs are present.  We just didn't see any.  These were free ranging, baited hogs.  It was obvious that they were working the feeders....it just had to be at night.  We hunted from first light to 10:00am then from 5.00pm 'til dark.  This is definately not a canned hunt.  I will not hesitate to give it another try.
GOOD SHOOTIN', Walt ;D :D ;D
