Lack of suitable ammo does not bother me much...

...because my Walther PPK in 380 Auto is on recall by S&W and I am not supposed to shoot it in the mean time.

THAT SUCKS!  I just got the Walther, there is now NO AMMO for it anywhere that I can find, all of my INet reloading supplies (factory loaded ammo, dies, primers, powders, 95 grain hardball bullets) are on BACK ORDER...some components until AUGUST 2009...and then I find that the PPK I just got is ON RECALL due to potential ammo ignition when the safty is engaged.

So, I am consigned to not worry too much about it all at this point.  It is just like not having it in the first place.  Besides, what will it gain me if I do?

I was recently hauling a friend of mine around to Sporting Goods Stores looking for the new self-defense ammunition Hornady is advertising for the .380.  Zero .380 ammunition, and wish old shop owner said folks that have had the .380 buried away for years is digging it out because of the firearm and ammunition shortage.  Says he sold .380 ammo that set on his shelves for years.

I have 43 rounds of CCI Blazer JHP.  I am starting to wonder what it might be worth?

Cheaper Than Dirt is selling the aluminum-cased .380 JHP ammo for $70 per box of 50.  That means your 43 rounds should be worth $60.20, assuming anyone is actually paying $70 for a box of ammo.

I have a thread on the ammo shortage too.  I went to a big gun store in Austin, TX called Mcbrides on Friday.  They appeared to be doing a booming business in gun sales, but when I looked at the ammo selection...lots of .32 ACP, some 9 X 19 at $18.00 a box.  I could not see any .38 specials, or .45 ACP.  I am glad that my Markarov is chambered for the 9X18 Makarov round, I did see some ammo for it at the last gunshow.  But when .380 ACP dries up, that is disturbing.

I don't own a .32 ACP, but I can tell you that dealers in my area haven't had any for months.

I found some 380 fmj at Dunhams today. 19 bucks for a box of 50. 35 bucks for 50 hollow points. I stick with the fmj for target and personal protection.
