5.5" barrel or 7"+?
« on: March 09, 2009, 04:00:24 PM »
Im curious as to what most of you shoot on your semi auto rimfire pistols. Do you like a 5.5in barrel or a 7in or bigger barrel? Also what do you mainly use your pistol for?

This pistol is mainly going to be used for shooting targets so im wondering what I should get and if the 2 1/2 inches of extra barrel is going to make that big of difference?

For me the 5.5" balances the best.  Most of my target shooting is with a red dot, so the barrel longer sight radius of the longer barrel that some people seem to favor isn't a factor.

5&1/2" for me in a single action or shorter. I'm not a target shooter so I carry mine in a houlster and long barrels get in the way. Regards,

I tend to favor 5 and 5 1/2" barrels. I really like my 5" S&W Model 41 and my 5 1/2" Ruger MK III, but the deep fluting of the MK III Hunter keeps the weight of the 6 7/8" barrel the same as the 5 1/2", so you just have a little more sight radius without much of any balance shift. I can shoot the longer barrels ok with two hands, but one handed bullseye shooting requires a shorter barrel for me. I shake too much.

I like a 5 to a 6 inch barrel for target shooting, in either a semi or a revolver. Longer barrels are ok for hunting but not really required.

I have 3 MKII's, a 4", a 5 1/2", and a 6 7/8", and I enjoy shooting all of them. I shoot mostly informal target, and squirrel hunting, I find myself using the 4"er more often than the others, this might be because of aging eyes, but I really like that 4"er.
