1 in 22" twist question
« on: March 29, 2009, 04:04:29 PM »
What weight bullet goes with a .45 cal. 1 in 22 twist? Is this a .45/70 proposition, or something else?

I've got a 1:20 twist in a 45/70.  It seems to shoot the cast 500 grain bullets pretty well.  It will also do fine with the Lee 450 grain flat point.  I imagine the 1:22 wouldn't be too much different.
Thanks,

The 1-22" was thoroughly researched and developed by Springfield Armory for the M1873 "Trapdoor" rifles and shoot the 405 and 500 grain bullets well.

Modern barrel makers offer faster twists than the standard 500 grain bullets at .45-70 velocities for those care to shoot heavier bullets or at higher velocities.

Thanks, I had a hunch, but it was only a guess. Appreciate the info.
