I took all the metal off mine, sanded/stripped it and refinished it with Linspeed. It came out real pretty. At the same time I cut some of the toe of the butt off and straightened out the but plate to compensate. Had to cut down the toe plate also and file the butt plate back to fit the stock. But it made it a lot nicer to shoot without getting jabbed in the armpit by that pointy butt!
Another mod i did was to replace the wedges with some from Track of the Wolf which have a slot down the middle. I inlet a small brad under the escutcheons which go through the slots, capturing the wedges. I don't have to worry about losing them this way.
