336 in 35 Rem project gun?

I have a real problem with resurecting abused guns bought cheap. ;D
I love cleaning up/improving them.
Here the latest candidate.
Cosmetics are pretty rough but not really bad.  Worst is some small light spots of rust on the mag tube.  Otherwises it's just dirty.  I can't report on the bore.  Some gold finish has worn off the trigger leading me to believe that it's been shot a lot, but nothing else appears 'worn'.  Blueing is actually good (except for small areas noted) just very dirty.  Wood is good, just...dirty.

With this general description, would you buy?  What would you pay? 

Oh, and the best part...it's pre cbs!

I paid to much for mine, but don't care cause that's what I wanted.  Around here they don't stay on the shelf very long, if you see it, start diggin fer yer money.  The price on mine was 375.00 but I put in some trade and am very happy to have her.  Kinda like a woman you would pick for your wife, solid and loyal, attractive, if not beautiful, but there thru thick and thin.  DP

I bought a 35 Rem. 336 in dec at a pawn shop for 350 out the door! it had a little discoloration on the receiver, and a rubbed spot on the barrel. But like the man said if you want it you pay what you gotta pay!
I kinda like project guns with character as along as they have not been abused to the point of not being able to shoot!  My barrel was clean with no pits!

Any 336 in .35 Remington you can get for under $300 is snapped right up in the New England area. I have had mine for many years and would not ever get rid of it. A friend saw it and shot it years ago and bought one, his cousin saw his and bought one, his cousins friend saw his and bought one, and so it goes. Word of mouth and ultimate satisfaction is a great thing, and so are these fine rifles. The .35 Remington caliber is inherently accurate and kills game far in excess of it's paper power and statistics. I have had such great luck with the .35 Remington cartridge I have had a .357 Mag barrel rechambered to .35 Remington for one of my H&R/NEF Handi rifles and it has become a favorite for Maine deer hunting. It will work just as well for black bear and for moose with the proper load. And speaking of the proper load, I have a friend who loads his Model 336 in .35 Remington with 150 grain pointed bullets and uses it very successfully for coyote hunting in Maine. He loads one in the chamber and one in the magazine tube. I believe with the new bullets and primers you can safely load more in the tube but he hunts that way with no problems. I hunt with a single shot so I see no disadvantage at all to having 2 shots. Loaded with the Hornady Lever evoloution bullets also makes it an entirely new hunting round. I believe the Marlin Model 336 in .35 Remington is truely one of America's great guns....<><....:)

I'm not 100% sure as I'm having a case of Oldfartitis but I think I gave $300 for mine. He had it posted for like $375 and it sat out there for a couple weeks or more. I held off because a friend was considering it. My buddy backed off and I made an offer. He took it. Mine is easily a 99% gun. It will become a family hierloom. The gun was barely shot. The guy I bought it off got it from his father-in-law who was a pawn shop owner. His F-I-L put it up because it was in such nice shape and it sit in the safe for a good 20 years. The guy never really got around to shootinng it and decided to just part with it. I suspect I was able to pick it up is because down here in Oklahoma you either shoot a high power out west in the plains or a 30-30 in the east down in the mountains. Lucky me!

Sounds just like my .35 Remington Marlin 336? Yes, most certainly I would buy if not over $225(there is a  recession, you know)? You'll love the .35 Remington.

probably go for 150-200 up here but they dont seem to sell as high here as other places. Just to common up here i guess.

Just joking, of course!! They are $200-$350 here depending on whether it's a dealer or someone cleaning out a closet. A lot of house cleaning going on with the economy the way it is.....

I too love my Marlin 35 Rem. I like it so much, that 90 days later, I bought the same gun in a 30-30. I handload both calibers. They are great shooters. I will never sell either of my 336 Marlin lever actions.

 I believe the Marlin Model 336 in .35 Remington is truely one of America's great guns....<><....:)  ... my brother bought me a marlin 336 in .35 remington, but he paid far less than 300 dollars, for it. brand new , he thinks it was 265 ??? but anyhoo, no cross bolt safety. [yes !] i hate those things.
mine will shoot cloverleafs at fifty, and quarter sized groups at 75, shes a keeper.

Picked up a .35 this weekend at a show. Born in 1967,metal finish poor,wood ok probably pickup truck gun.
Going to tinker and make it a short magazine carbine(17"-18").Probably refinish it with some sort of Ceramic coating.
It will made a good "beater" for Florida hogs.
Should made a good companion for my .35 handi-rifle.

Well, I had to go and order a new one, 35 Rem, to go with the old girl, (1957), I will just use the old one with factory loads, but may try to step up the new one a bit.  W 748 and Ramshot has 2 powders that improve on factory speeds with the 200 gr.  Didn't want to stress the old girl.  Still need to work on some more loads with the 38-55, the 444p needs nothing, the 1952 30-30 looks like crap but shoots good and the 1894C just keeps spittin' em out as fast as I can lever em in!  DP

got a 336A last oct- nov this is what it looked like win i' got it .. got done with it a few day's ago.. the june issue of guns and ammo has a article about the marlin 336 in 35 rem   thanks WORM ;D ;D

I bought one off of Swampman a year or so back. I love it. I know this sounds crazy to most of you but I had never seen one in Iowa.
