Winchester Model 37 410 shotgun
« on: April 07, 2009, 07:41:16 AM »
Please don't jump on me for asking this.
I own a model 37 in 410.
I was looking at the handi rifle (thinking of buying one ) and thought my 37 is an awful lot like the handi rifle
Did Winchester ever make exchangable barrels for the 37.
The one I have is a never been fired , sit in the closet for 60 years , house, cabin gun.
I received it after a great uncle passed and it has sat in my safe for 20 years as I never had a need for it before.
If a low power centerfire barrel similar to the 223 can be adapted it sure would be nice.

any one have any knowledge on the 37 let me know please

you might be better off selling the 37 as they bring a good price if un fired and get what you want in a handi or tc .
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

I've never heard that Winchester offered rifled barrels for the Model 37. I think if you sell it off to buy a modern gun you'll wind up regretting it. Not only is it a family gun, but it is a pretty good gun for rabbit and squirrel hunting.

In one of the books on Winchester a model 21 was made into a double rifle . It said that the 21 was the only gun they made that would withstand the presure of a rifle cart.
Others on this site talk about an adapter that turns a shotgun into a rifle with mixed results .
I do agree about the regretting to a point .
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

To my knowledge the Win 37 never had barrels offered as an option tho it is possible they fitted some to them on special order. It was a SHOTGUN ONLY never any rifled barrels. It is quite a collectible gun these days and prices on them have climbed quite high.
