Eastern Colorado Whitetails or Muleys

I'm thinking about a hunt to Eastern Colorado. Isn't it mostly private land? What are the chances of getting permission to hunt where there is a good population of Whitetails and Muleys? Any suggestions about how to begin? Thanks

Depends on what part of eastern co you want to hunt. Where I go, east of walsenburg and trinidad there's alot of public land on the Commanche national grasslands. I seen some  racks out there that are unreal particulary in the river drainages. check the co. division of wildlife website, lots of good info and maps. hope this helps a little!

yup! most of the units I hunt are easy draws, no preference points needed to get licence. depending on where you decide to go be aware that some landowners might charge a trespass fee. The  times I've hunted private land I've paid a nominal fee-$50.00 to $75.00 But I've seen some charge 500.00 to 1000.00. You would think those racks were plated with gold.

I know I'm a little late to post on this and the application deadline is fast approaching.  If you haven't applied yet I'd look toward the "Big Game Access Program" basically for $40 you get access to large parcels of private land.  Apply in the GMU's  that have this kind of land available.  Deer are where you find them and Mule deer still has the largest population on the plains of Colorado.
