Author Topic: Remington DM conversion to BDL (Read 1137 times)

I have a Remington BDL SS (Stainless Synthetic) DM (Detachable Magazine) in .260 and 7mm-08. I recently bough a Bell & Carlson Medalist Stock, but the factory DM won't fit the Bell & Carlson. Many people told me that I could easily sell the Factory Remington stock, IN STAINLESS DETACHABLE MAGAZINE VERSION, for $75 to $100. Problem is, an HS Precision DM costs $200 - and that's just for the trigger guard assembly and DM - NOT THE WHOLE THING INCLUDING THE STOCK ITSELF!!! :eek:

So, either I return the Bell & Carlson stock back, or I get the parts to convert my beautiful DM into a regular SS BDL (trigger guard assembly, floorplate, etc.)

My question is, how much will it cost to convert it? And where should I go for the best prices? Does anyone know what all of the part numbers and names are that I need? Remember, it is a stainless version.

Brownells has most of the parts if not all of them. Go to the schematics and look up what you need. I'm not a fan of injection molded stocks and I guess that's why you want to change it. Maybe there is a foam you could have injected into the stock to make it ridged. The cost is not going to be cheap for the conversion. Dave

Zach, $125 for the conversion kit from Brownells. Go to Brownells site and type in Remington BDL conversion. You need the short standard kit. Dave

Midway USA has the parts too. Trigger guard $78.60, Mag spring $6.20, & Mag follower $22.43 . I don't know if that is everything you would need. BTW, I think you need extra long action screws for the B&C stocks.

Wow, I didn't think it would be THAT expensive. For the money, I just might be better off getting the HS Precision Stainless Steel Detachable Magazine kit. If I only knew.... :roll:

What type of stock is the factory stock and why do you want to change it? I use the original Ruger synthetic stock ( the old UGLY one) on my .243. I can get a better looking stock with no performance gain. Most injection molded stocks feel flimsy. I believe you could find a spray in foam and take care of that. I'm a function over form type guy. I like looks too but to a point. Dave

Perhaps it would be easier to open up the B&C stock you bought to accept the DBM parts that you already own?? It shouldn't be all that hard to do.. Even if you had a smith do the work, may end up the cheapest option..

I see the trigger guards and what not on eBay all the time. You may want to check there.

Dave,

It's the factory stock and I don't like it cause it isn't condusive to accuracy, plus I don't like the feel of it - cheap plastic.

I guess I could do that, but the thing is that I'd destroy the value of the factory stock. I can sell it now for about $100 since it's brand new.

Well guys, there has been a change in circumstances....

I tried to fit the B&C stock to the barreled action, and, although I think that the stock itself is of high quality (even better than HS Precision), I just hate the way it fits. The pistol grip feels like it's too far back, and the the stock just "feels to small."

I'm gonna return it back to Midway. At least I don't have to worry about the BDL conversion now, but thanks for all of your help and imput. :grin:
