Maximum barrel length of pistol

ras308  --  I can only believe that this will vary by state.   In New York, a handgun is described as follows:  "any pistol or revolver intended to be aimed and fired with one hand, and having a barrel length not exceeding 16 inches".

On the other hand, a rifle "is a firearm with a barrel length of at least 16 inches with rifling in the barrel that uses metallic cartridges"  and

a shotgun "is a firearm with a barrel length of at least 18 inches that uses shells that are nonmetalic except for the base".

I now wonder what other states use as their legal descriptions!!

Thanks for the reply, I saw via the internet just what you told me, but I could find nothing about Texas???  I called one of the local gunshops, they said there was not a law here stating a maximum length for handgun barrels.  I have yet to speak to anyone with law enforcement, but plan on contacting someone today.  The reason I asked the question is a friend is buying a G2, he wants it in a carbine but we can't get a stock yet.  I quess they are only manufacturing the pistol package now.  So instead of him waiting on the carbine package, he was just going to get the pistol package and buy a carbine barrel until he was able to get the stock.  Thanks again.

The carbine stuff for the G2 is out.  Ed's had a G2 Carbine in .17 HMR at the show last month.  It may not be available in your area yet, but Ed can probably hook you up, I'm sure.

Do you have a number or a website where I can get the G2 carbine stock in a youth length?
