Picked up a SIG P225/P6
« on: June 02, 2008, 06:44:55 PM »
Well, I finally bit the bullet and bought one of the police trade-in SIG's that have been showing up on the market.  My only 9mm was a Ruger P95 and it was feeling lonely, so I couldn't pass up one of these :).  Paid $299 online; after shipping and transfer the total was around $350 (that included original SIG storage box, the gun, 2 mags, and a leather holster).  It'll be this weekend before I can get out to the range with it, but just looking it over at home, it feels really well built.  I really like the position of the slide release being so far back - makes it easy to access with my small hands. Given the choice though, I wish there was an ambidextrous mag release as (again with the small hands) I can't reach the normal one without having to adjust my hand from the firing position, so normally I release with the left handed release (on guns that have one) with my middle finger instead.  I've also come to the conclusion that from a comfort perspective, I really like the single stack guns as opposed to double stack - the thinner frame is a plus IMHO.  Overall though, I think the gun was worth it.  Pics below.

You are going to love shooting it. The trigger is pretty heavy, I replaced the main spring in mine with a 19# wolff, this was an improvement that I would recommend to anyone. Depending on age it may not feed hollow points reliably, so don't trust you're life to it untill you check them out in your pistol. Sig has stopped making P6/P225 specific parts so if you see something you want replaced don't hesitate to get them ordered. Oil it up and wear it out!

I've got two now. I put a 17# spring in mine, and it is really nice. I bought the spring pack, so I'm going to put the 18# in the other one.

I just picked one up as well, box, 2 mags, big leather holster, mine has front night sights, I like that.  My P6 shoots the LawMan 115gr FMJ's real nice, I hear the 124gr selection is very boringly accurate.  The double action trigger on mine is about 78lbs.  :)

Yep me too!. Local gunshow dealer had about 10 of them and three of us that shoot together all bought one. 2 mags black akah 2 way holster and the box. Mine did show wear from the holster on the top of the slide. Cleaned it throughly, oiled it up. Now all I have to do is shoot it. Think it was a darn good bargain at $324 out the door. Where else can you get a west german 9mm for that price?. Frank

Great gun!  I haven't seen them advertised with the extra mag.  CDNN had them and was selling used mags for $22., but some dealer bought all they had (about 40000, I understand).  They still offer the gun, but with only one mag.

I have the orginal 225, European model with the mag release on the bottom.  It is a very rare gun, made for Sig by Hammerli, with their proof marks, but marked SIG P-225.  My other is a P-6 which had the American button style release on the side and is only marked P-6.  They are great guns....all of them!

If my butt is ever on the line again, I hope I am packing a SIG!

I bought a trade in  P6 only because it was about half the price of any new Sig.
My only 9mm in years.
Prefer the .45 acp.
However, at walMart Winny white box of 50 runs about 9 bucks, Rem 115 h.p. by the 100 pack runs 23 bucks.
I can affor to shoot this stuff.
I'm saving the brass cause it's too painful to toss perfectly good brass.
You know what I mean.
So I just had to order a cheap set of Lee dies in 9mm just to see what some careful handloaded ammo will do in this W. German P6.
I do like the gun a lot and bought extra mags.
I shot the Rem 115 h.p. WalMart stuff into water jugs and that bullet expands as well as any and I compared them with Rem Golden Saber and Speer Gold Dot.
The heavier 124 grain bullets do penetrate more water than the 115 Remington offering.
I plan on shooting mine untill in falls apart.
I have 1200 rounds of Wally ammo hoarded already.
Great little used gun.
I suspect they have been shot much less than we might imagine.
Mine shows holster wear to th slide but the innerds still look new.

Love my two P6's!!!  They do have a heavy double action pull, but it is so smooth that I really have no trouble at all with it as it is.

I got a P-6 two days ago, won't get to shoot it for a week or so.  Place bought 130 of them 3 -4 weeks ago, and when the guy behind the counter told me it was the last one, I got it.  The price was marked $329., but he said he would sell it for 299, then found out no second mag so let me have it for 250.  No holster, but still think I got a hell of a deal.  Now where does one find another mag for these?   DP

You might try Gunbroker or the like, or maybe Numrich.  The P225/P6 is no longer made, and being a single stack it shared no magazine compatibility with any of SIG's other guns (that I'm aware of).

I'm sure you can track one down somewhere.  And depending on just how many of these made it to market, you might well see the 3rd party companies like Mec Gar start making them again.

There are currently several mags up for bid on gunbrokers.com............keep in mind, these mags are not CHEAP.  I have seen them sell from $15. to $50 each, depending if is is a factory Sig mag or aftermarket.

Just ran into a guy in a gun shop that has 3 of them.  Will take $25.00 each, is that a good price?  Haven't seen them yet, don't know if they are SIG or after market.  DP

I just want to comment that you need to get SIG mags as the after market ones are terrible. They are fit only for clearance drills. This is not only my opinion but widely known among P6/ P225 owners.

Plenty mags about any place that stocks such things.
I have 4 now.
Pro-Mag, made in U.S.A. cost about half what Sig mags sell for.
Not sure where I got them but almost bet Cheaper than Dirt or midway.
Pretty good guns for the money ain't they.
Did you notice they say "Made in W. Germany" on them?

Have two sig's P239 in 40 S&W and the P6, love them both. Still kick myself for not getting the swiss sig I saw a few years back in 357 sig. That one said "made in switzerland" on the slide. Great pistols. I'd like to put a adjustable rear sight on both of them. Has anyone got any reccomendations??. Frank

I often carry the P6 as CCW.
I've shot this one more than any handgun I own over the past two years.
I have 5 mags, 2 original, three Pro-Mag, no issues with either.
Mine will feed a bent screwdriver I think.
Have you noticed they can no longer be had in the #350 price range?
Going retail store rate is $450!.
