Reloading for my 243
« on: April 10, 2009, 02:41:22 AM »
I am planning on getting set up for reloading for my handi in 243, it is the ultra varmint model.  I was just wanting some advise on what components you use and or recommend for this, bullets, powder, etc.  Majority of my reloading will be for target shooting. I am new to this and I will be purchasing a reloader and the rest of the components soon.  I havn't commited to a certain reloader yet but have done a lot of research over the last few months, alot the research has been on this site and has really helped me.  Just so you know I don't shoot a whole lot only about 500 round a year.  Thanks for your help.

Would you please give us a "heads up" on the particular projectiles you might be using? Varmint or thin skinned large game? I reload 85 gr. SPBT and 100gr SPBT respectively. Granted, there are many more choices.

I mostly right now shoot the winchester super x ammo in 100 gr PP or 80 gr SP, I like those so far.  I mentioned that I would be mostly be target shooting, other than that it will be coyotes, but mostly targets.  So whatever works good for targets is my main concern and is economical.

I have used a variety of 75 gr. hollow points for both target shooting and coyotes. I guess if pushed to pick I would go with Speer's TNT nowadays but in the past I used both Hornady and Sierra 75 gr. hp's.  Since you are mostly target shooting and don't need top velocities I got fine accuracy using IMR 3031.
