Last year, I purchased a M-77 in 300 mag with stainless barrel and composite stock. The barrel has 4 port holes on top and nowhere else. Does this sound like it came from the factory? All the factory rugers I have seen had 360 degree porting.

Never seen a factory ported gun from Ruger. I think the previous post meant to check
www.rugerforum.com
. Its a Ruger specific site and has alot of people that are very knowledgable about Ruger factory variations.

There were never any factory ported Ruger firearms.
Bill Ruger would roll over in his grave.
IMHO, it was bad enough that Alex Sturm got dropped like a lead balloon after Bill passed.

Don't know if Bill would of had the much a problem with porting. Early on it seems many of their handguns were ported by Magnaport. I believe he and the owner of Magnaport were friends.
