Scout sight for SMLE ?
« on: April 18, 2009, 04:45:25 AM »
Does any one know of a scout rifle type sight for a SMLE No1 Mk111* that fixes to the rear sight base ? I would like to mount the scope forward so I can still use stripper clips. Pete

In USA two outfits do these sights, B&K, and S&K (no, I am not kidding). You will have to research the web sites for both. Don't recall SMLE exactly, I was looking for P14. I also recall Swede Mauser along with most 98's. Take long eye relief pistol scopes. Should meet your needs if you can access from "down under." Luck.

S&K makes one for #1Mklll. They run $69 + shipping in the U.S.
Not sure they are available outside the country though.

Many Thanks iiranger & sm Bob. I can't seem to find B&K on Google, but the S&K is exactly what I am after. - Pete

I picked up one from another forum. Fit like it should except when bubba got ahold on my old rifle he ground the back mount off. So it's off to my gunsmith for a weld job.

I picked up a S&K for my No4 Mk1 and it worked like a charm.  I had to use a small drill bit to 'indent' the inside of the action where the set screw sits against to make sure the front of the rail stayed put and then added a bit of locktite or my wife's fingernail polish and the rail is still in place and quite stable.  A very easy 'fix' for a scope mount.

I do not use the stripper clips - I have a couple of extra magazines - one has a 40 y/o wood block which limits the mag to 5 rounds for hunting.
