Hi, DogDoc!
'Smithing the 10-22 Ruger is simplicity itself. a big reason why this model is so popular with do-it-yourselfers.
Because of the wide variety of factory-made drop-in barrels, stocks, sights, etc that are available, smithing this model is mostly trigger work and installing scopes. Easy to do using the factory top mount scope rail.
Trigger work can be store-bought drop-in, or your own, using some hard Arkansas stones and honing oil.'
The barrel attachment uses a wedge retainer held to the receiver with two cap screws. Match-quality barrels are drop-in installation. and come with detailed instructions.
Standard hand tools are used for stock removal/installation, allen key wrenches for the cap screws and maybe scope installation.
For hand-fitting a laminated thumbhole stock, you'll need standard woodworking tools: rasp, files, sanding block, barrel channel scraper, stain, sealer, and oil finish or urethane finish of your choice.
Have fun!
John
