Smoking in your area?
« on: April 13, 2009, 03:57:43 AM »
Is it really possible that 25% of the adult population smokes? It hardly seems possible. Who is doing all the smoking? Is it a regional thing?

What about rolling your own? If I were smoking I'd probably look into making my own cigarettes. Are the components taxed like the finished product?

I have a friend who rolls his own and yes, he is also being victimized by the outrageous taxes, at least here in Wisconsin. For example, a 6 oz. can of Top Tobacco has risen in price from $16 to $32 because of the taxes. My friend is outraged, yet he says he will continue to roll and smoke in spite of the taxes.

This site shows the new increases in the excise tax on tobacco products.

http://www.ttb.gov/main_pages/schip-summary.shtml

Federal excise tax on cigarettes from 39 cents per pack to $1.0066 per pack. If you look farther down the list on this increases you will see that for folks that "Roll their own", the Federal excise tax increase on tobacco went from $1.0969 per pound to $24.78 per pound.
