Hi Guys,

I've got an Original Huntsman (early 1980s) in 45 cal with the pushin breech plug. I'm looking for your favorite load with a standard .440 round ball. I do have some Hogddon Triple-Seven on hand in FFg and FFFg. These would be my starting point, but I can certainly get other powders if you've had a good experience with something else.

I could use a plinker and a hunting load.

I use 50grains of FFG triple 7 with a pure lead .445 ball and a .009 patch little hard to start but once down the tube it works pretty good to about 60-70 yrds but I don't see real great past 50 yards. Just adjust the patch accordingly with your .440 balls.Kurt

Last year I was playing around with .440 pure lead ball, .012 patch and 60 grains of FFG Triple 7. Held a nice group a 55 yards.

Pulled out my instruction manual from H&R and their recommended load is.

50 grains FFFG
.445 Dia. Pure Lead Round Ball
.009" Thick Patch
