Colt gunsmith???
« on: February 01, 2009, 06:18:15 AM »
Howdy all!
Have a old Colt Model 357 that I gave my wife about 20 years ago and looking for a good gunsmith to re-time the gun.  If it is cocked slow the cyl doesn't lock and while it is not a problem when cocking normally I still want to fix it.  Also figure that a good going through and tune up is due.  I also would like to do a round butt conversion to fit her hand better and am not worried about hurting the value as it won't be sold in the next 2 lifetimes.  Colt never stamped the "rampant colt" on the side though so any comments on this would be welcomed.  It does have some small pitting on a few areas from holster wear in a humid environment from the previous owner so like I said, I am not too concerned about hurting the value.
Can anybody steer me to a good Colt smith?
                                                                                      Thanks!
                                                                                                    Jeff

I also have one of these, allthough the timing on mine is OK,I wanted a re blue, tune-up...so I have asked around, and the consensus was to send the gun to Colt....Apparently , the trigger ,timing of the Colt is a little more specialized. Any gunsmith who works on these should be Colt sanctioned........so Just send it to Colt.

Upon reading your post again,DUH! I don't think Colt will modify the grip, but they can fix the timing.  By the way, if you have the original grips, They are hard to come by, I know, I have been looking.$$$

I sent in my 1878 Colt DA Frontier .45 revolver to Dwight at A & J Gunsmithing.  He has also worked on my Colt Official Police, Colt .357, and Colt Police Positive Special revolvers.
