;) here in wy. I usually only use a common .22 rifle. love to shoot 'em with my 22 hornet or .223, but usually save the centerfire ammo for p. dogs. shot 80 on sunday with my Marlin 39A and cci hollow points. that rifle or a pair of remingtons are my main weapons for gophers. the rems. are a 521 T with a simmons 3-9 and the 513T has a 6-24 Tasco. usually i shoot cci hollow points in the 521, but in the 513 i use stingers or yellowjackets. bought a case of each before i retired, and a couple cases of cci.  :D ;)

They (the gopher's) do make a nice popping sound when caught with a 40gr CCI maxi-mag out of my WMR.

Around here a gopher is a large rat aka Norway rat. As a boy they infested many homes and were along the ditch that ran thru our property. In those days we burned our trash in a large metal bin that had been used in my grandfather's blacksmith shop as his hearth. We then dumped the remains into the ditch that flowed past. Yeah bad but common in those days.

The gopher rats ate the food in the trash thrown out and lived in the banks of that ditch. I'd shoot them with .22 shorts and air rifles.

The critters most of you call gophers I think are more of a chipmunk or ground squirrel than a rat and I've never even seen them but have read of them.
