I've never taken one off an 029, is there a bolt on the end of the crank holding the clutch on?  I'd think there is...

got it off, there is a threaded nut that is part of the clutch, it is left hand thread.local tech said do NOT use a impact on it unless yu have already removed the flywheel.the flywheel key, which is part of the flywheel is easy to shear off being aluminum.had to completely dissassemble the saw to remove a broken bar stud.i had no idea a chain saw had so many parts.but its bak together and running.had it since the 029 first came out, hate to part with it.

I had an 028 for a time...  When it needed it's first clutch sprocket, i went off to my Stihl dealer, and he said $89.00...  I said WHAT??  I only want the sprocket!!  Turns out Stihl changed the whole system, and i would have to buy a "conversion" with the new style sprocket!!  I didn't buy it...

That was the straw that broke the camels back, and i haven't owned a Stihl since...

drilling man , maybe the o28 was diff than the o29. i just priced a sprocket for mine and im thinking he said bout 35 bucks.ive had good luck with stihls, ive had this one for at least 15 years or so and this is the first major prob ive had with it.ussually my luck runs bout like yours, if i own it, its some kind of weird special model that yu can get parts for. happy cuttin!!!

I consider Stihls good saws, it's just that i didn't like having to pay for warr., and then let them decide if it really was there fault and pay me back.  I didn't like paying for a bad piston while they sent in a sample to see if i was using premium fuel and their oil...  Then the sprocket deal...

I think the DEALER makes the saw, and lucky for me i'be had good Husqvarna dealers in the past...  BUT, my best Husky dealer retired, and my tractor dealer quit carrying chainsaws, so maybe i'm back to square one now?
