Varget loads for 10" 7-30 Waters?
« on: September 07, 2003, 02:15:51 PM »
I'm looking for a place to start with my 10" Contender in 7-30 Waters.  I have Varget on hand, and I'd like to work up a load for the 120 gn. Nosler BT.  I haven't been able to find any data for this combo online, and my manuals don't have any either.  Anyone use this and have a good place to start load development?  Thanks!

Patrick

I have found loads for
100 gr 37.9 gr
and
140 gr 32.6 gr

I have been using Varget and Win 748 in 7-30 with 130 gr Sierra SSH bullets. The Varget is more consistant between summer and winter, The Win 748 is better in the summer. I am not totally happy with the accuracy of either, although it is fine for deer (1.5" at 100 yds)

I forgot the legal stuff.

These loads are maximum, reduce 10% and work up.

sorry

Mike,

My 14 inch 7-30 barrel did ok but not great with the 130 grain Sierra SSPs.  I've switched to Hornady 139 grain SSTs being pushed by a max load of 748.  The results have been excellent.  In fact, I shot 2 groups with this combination today.  One was .50 inches and the other had 2 bullets practically in the same whole with the 3rd round 1/8 inch away.  This load works very well on whitetail.

Blessings!
