At first with out the powder can I thought it was a 3 or 6 pndr. then I enlarged the plaque and found it was a 24pndr.

interesting markings George II so it should have been made sometime between 1727 and 1760  Yet it I am reading the

breech right it was made in 1718 ???? which is before his reign ..... older gun later marked GR2?

by the time of the American revolution this because of its age may have been considered a 2nd class or 3rd class

gun.......... I like the "US" surcharge. Any idea on the crown  over "M"?
Mr president I do not cling to either my gun or my Bible.... my gun is holstered on my side so I may carry my Bible and quote from it!

Sed tamen sal petrae LURO VOPO CAN UTRIET sulphuris; et sic facies tonituum et coruscationem si scias artficium

Crown over M maybe Lord Montague, Master Gen. of Ordnance?  Don't have my books nearby now.

Casting date is 1748.
