garand owners help
« on: May 24, 2009, 01:38:03 PM »
I have a m1 garand that is really hard to load the clip in, I have taken it out of the stock and removed the trigger group and it is still very hard to push it in that last little 1/8 of an inch to get the bolt to release.  It has been like this all the time maybe its normal?  If there is something wrong I don't see it but how to tell if a worn part is the culprit.

Snowman,

I've never had that problem, but here's what Scott Duff has to say on the subject:

first, I assume you've tried several clips with the same result.  If not, get some new clips,

The second most common cause is a broken clip ejector.  Its part of the trigger group.

The third cause could be problems with the bullet guide and follower arm, which are part of the receiver group.

Do your self a favor anf get Duff's "M1Garand:  Owners Guide".  I'm sure he has a web page.  Good luck.

Snowman, the M1 follower can be put in forward or backward and still look normal but if it's backward it doesn't accept the clip well.  When it's backward it sits a little farther toward the rear than if put in correctly.  That could be your problem.
