For the Midwesterners. Pistol Shoot on the 20th
« on: September 12, 2003, 02:12:01 AM »
There is a pistol shoot at the Jesse James Farm in Kearney Missouri on September 20th.  Registration is at 8 am.  THis is the website  http://www.jessejames.org/   The shoot is cap and ball and cartridge.   The targets are at 5, 10 and 15 yards.   On the site are pics from some of the other shoots.  I think it is 15$ to participate.  People usually have several guns around if you don't have one of your own, someone will let you participate with theirs.  Dressing up is encouraged but not required.  It is in conjunction with Kearney Missouri's Jesse James celebration.

What kind of shoot goes on there?  How many rounds are fired and it is CAS type guns?  I just got my hands on a couple of guns and fired one of them about 15 rounds.  I don't have any of the attire, but it sounds like it might be a fun day out for the family and if I get to shoot some then it would be even better.  Got any more details...I didn't see anything about it on the website.

Check in is 8 to 9.  There are about 50 shots total, all pistol.  Cap and Ball and Cartridge are both welcome, no adjustable sights.  There are silloettes at 15 yards, a ace of spades shoot at 5 yards, and the rest are at 10 yards.  I think it is $15 to participate.  Don't worry about attire, many wear jeans.  I am not sure why they dont' have more on the web site.

Blackpowder?

I see on the website a mention of a blackpowder shoot.  My guns are the Colt .45 replicas and they're loaded to shoot Unique (sort of smoky but not by BP standards).  Can I still shoot this event?

I believe so, I have never heard of a muzzle velocity min/max.   The main thing is old west style guns, no adjustable sights.   There was a guy showed up to the last one, he brought the flyer with him, so I would guess he knew on the sight issue.  He had adjustable sights, didn't seem to happy when he was told no, even after 3 or 4 people offered loaners.  I believe the cartridge shooters vary on their loads, so I would think it would be okay.
