Home built crossbow
« on: May 14, 2009, 01:30:32 PM »
Has anyone reading this ever built their own crossbow?

My Uncle Bill and me each own modern factory-made crossbows.  But I found an older Browning compound bow for $10. at a yard sale and we initiated this project.  Trigger mechanism is still on paper only at this point.  I planned a medieval style lever operated spool type release but Bill wants to incorporate a modern archery wrist type of release into the stock.

I'll post photos when our little project is complete.  Goal is to make this a fun target shooting crossbow.  Length is not conducive to hunting.

it is a release that vertical bow hunters use. it has a set of jaws thet hold the string and when the archer is ready to fire he tuches the trigger and the jaws open and the string is set loose.
