« on: October 21, 2009, 12:45:11 PM »
I have never used this 60 gr .22 ammunition-has anybody had any experiance with it for typical short range small game hunting? how is it for accuracy?

I have a few boxes of it, and i've shot some of it, but not on paper.  It doesn't stabilize well in a slow twist bbl., as it requires a faster twist than most 22's have.

I was getting good enough accuracy out of a 10/22I that I had for anti Coyote in the yard.
They also worked well out of my Walther TPH.

Used them in my HB Ruger 10/22 shot ok made a bit of a pop. Used them in my old 24" barreled marlin and they shot great and were damn near supressor quiet.

They have 24" of penetration into gelatin at 100 yards. So in other words they don't mushroom. They don't stableize well in standard  twist barrels as Drilling Man stated. So I get key holes in some of the rifles. The case is about as long as a short, so they kick out a whole lot of sound out of a semi auto. I run them in a 1-9" AR and they hit good. An old mossberg with long barrel they do good as well. My 10-22 is about an inch at 50 yards. The only use I can see for them that other 22lr wouldn't do just as well is a coyote or deer. But I would want a lot more gun for either.

For small game it's hard to beat just a standard 36 or 40 gr subsonic.

I would think a .22 60 grain bullet  would have a good sectional density factor

Excellent rounds,Wish i could afford a case of them.
I have a glenfield model 10 sighted in specifically for them
and they all pass through one large hole at 60 yards from that gun.
They do penetrate quite well also. Shot a large beaver a while back with one
at about 50 yards. hit right behind the eye and it rolled over dead
in the water. They hit pretty hard. I have had none keyhole at the distances
I have shot them but I am sure they would do some interesting things
at longer range as the velocity drops.

I shoot them through my Marlin Model 83 knock off. No key holeing and then most accurate bullet to-date. I did pop a fox with one. Front shot to the chest. Entrance wound, no exit, no quick kill. I wouldnt recommend for regular hunting if your going for a clean kill.
