Good Morning Montana!

I'm here Oldshooter. You can take a break now. Thanks for standing watch without relief since early this morning. Now isn't this odd? Guys from Texas and Wisconsin, and we are watching the Montana forum. ;) Guess that's team work.

Cloudy and Rainy today with Temps in the 40s today. Wet and Chilly.

You Folks have a Great Day!

Good morning , For sure some one has to stand watch , it's so nice here we don't have to !  ::)

Lovely morning , high overcast but sun is shining .37 degrees , snow is shrinking fast .

Going to celebrate mothers 97th BD today . She lives in Assisted living @ county seat . Will take a rifle along in case a gopher pops it 's head up through the snow on the way out to main road.....
Got to keep the topic on "Hunting in Montana " ;D

Good morning every one,

Overcast and 21 degrees according to the computer.  42 and sun breaking through the clouds out in the back yard.

Looks like Friday, if the snow has melted of the the garden and the ground is not muddy I can start planting.

When I shovel the snow off the walks, I also shovel a roadside rest are for the dogs. When the snow gets over 4 or 5 inches they can't get out inthe yard to do their duty.  Yesterday middle dog Olivia decided she was going to play in the snow.  She was going around the yard with just the top of her back and head out of the snow.  She went under th spruce tree and I could see her pacing back and forth trying to figure a way around the big drift she now faced on my side of the tree.  Suddenly she jump up on the drift. She land on top of the drift and looked very pleased with herself. Stood the there for a few seconds and then the bottom dropped out and she completely disappeared.  I was about to go in rescue mode when I see her nose and paws stick up out of the drift.  I can tell she is standing on her hind legs.  She back her way out of the drift and went around.  Doesn't take much to entertain me.

Think I will go work on my shooting platform for my cannon.

Did spend a big bunch of money yesterday.  I have a large number of frequent flyer miles built up. So the wife and got on the phone to book a flight for Daughter and Grand-daughter to come out and visit us.   The next available frequent flyer seats for a flight from Minneapolis to Great Falls leg of the flight is April 2010.   Well Darn. I just bought them regular tickets. Ouch, that was cheap.

The Two of them lived in Montana from 1997 to about 2001.  Granddaughter was 3 years old in 97. About 7 in 2001 when she moved to Illinois.  When she lived in Montna she would go with me in the truck and serve as my spotter...never understood how she could spot anything with the binoculars backwards but she did. Later she turned into a critic. Instead of saying just "there's one Grampa!" she added "you missed!" to her vocabulary. What was really bad, she had good eyes and was right.

In 2005 while I was working in DC at headquarters being a very important person in my own mind, we took a vacation trip home to Montana and picked Granddaughter up on the way through Il.

This time when we got to the gopher fields she was the shooter.  Well lets just let the pictures speak.

In between talking to her about being a 14 year old making a plane trip from Il to MT and her vollyball and tumbling activites, was a two short sentences that carried a bunch of enthusiasm  "can we shoot gophers?  and when told yes, " a very excited "oh good!" as the conversation moved on to how she and mom were headed to the mall to buy shoe for 8th grade graduation.

Okay so maybe I was more excited than she was.

Excellent story and pics of the granddaughter, Double D. She looks very proud of herself - and she should - she did good.
