Camo AR15
« on: May 02, 2009, 06:43:38 AM »
When I was reading Lloyd's post about ordering a new gun, I saw ccoker's pic of his AR which he Camo'd himself.  Thinking 'I can do that', I went down to the hdw and picked up some cans of Forest green, Tan, and OD paint.  This is the result of an hour's work.  If it looks a little strange, it's because the trigger group is out of it at the moment.  It was fun and if I don't like it, all I need is some more flat black!  Here in Michigan, we have more greens to deal with, were I in Texas, I would add more brown and tan to it.  I would also like to see pic's of your camo jobs on your AR's.  44 Man

Thats pretty kick azz looking!  How did you do the pattern on it?  I am kinda curious about that as I have a couple of guns I would like to play around with this and see if I can pull off something that looks as good as it is functional.

It really was easy.  They say to use the dark colors first then add the lighter shades on top.  I didn't do that.  I went down to the Dollar store and bought plastic flowers, one of fern leaves and another of tall grass.  The gun was black and I sprayed a fair amout of forest green and tan on that, leaving blotches of all three colors.  Then I held the plastic grass and one fern leaf over the gun and shot parts of it with O.D. green.  I turned out darker than I wanted so I took some cardboard and cut four long grass leave shaped cuts and sprayed some more tan and forest green through those as I held them over different parts of the gun.  You can't go wrong, just de-grease well before hand.  If you don't like what you get, just add some more of other colors.  Have fun and enjoy.  44 Man

Here's all I used.....

here's a close up.  Yes, I did the scope too!

Looks good 44man and ccoker.  I have a Poly Tech AK that I bought used that bubba painted.  I thought about trying to clean the paint off, but maybe I'll just try to fix bubba's work with a home camo job.  My only problem is that I don't know if my talent is any better than bubba's.
