Broken Forend?

What would cause the bolt housings to break on a composite forend. I bought the forend used for a 20" .45-70 Katahdin Pro Hunter barrel. After 15 rounds of trapdoor loads, the front pillar had a piece broke off of it and the rear pillar was split. TC is going to replace the forend. I'm just trying to figure out why this would happen. The bolts were not over tightened.

That is a common problem with heavy recoiling setups using the composite forend.  It may happen again.  A solution that works for me is to use a walnut forend, apply a "pebbled" texture and duracoat to match the synthetic buttstock.  I have done quite a few so far for friends with great results, and I have perfected the texture where no one can tell it is a wood forend it matches the synthetic perfectly.

you might get the hanger bar system. the forearm is filled where the bar goes and new screws go clear thru forearm into bar. see Straton Custom or MGM
