Springfield 1911 45 Loaded 5 Inch or 6 Inch Barrel--Which One

I have pretty well settled on the SF Loaded 1911 in 45 Caliber in SS but wonder about getting the longer barrel. I will have to order it anyway so I thought why not the 6 inch barrel...............it looks very cool (a word I don't use much as I am an OLD Guy).

Will it be more accurate? Does it have a full length 'support rod'? (terminology??)

Any comments appreciated.

The Springfield "Loaded" is a nice pistol for the money. Just a personal thing, but I don't care much for the long slide models. To me, they just don't look and balance right. The barrel length is not a factor in accuracy. It does give you a longer sighting plane, and a muzzle heavy balance. For my tastes the 4" balances perfectly, and I tend to shoot better with them in rapid fire. In slow fire my 4" 1911s shoot as well as my 5" models. Have to admit, I'm not a fan of long barrels on any handgun. Just my own tastes. If you like long barreled handguns, the long slide might be just the thing. And yep, the guide rod has to be longer in the long slide. Bet you'll be happy with either one.

I will take an opposite view from Savage.
I think they look cool and the do have a better sight radius.
It is not as easy to conceal.
If you look at them side by side there is not much difference in appearance--to me.
I will have one some day.
Stay with the government for many practical reasons until you just have too have the "cool" one.

I too think a long slide is very 'cool'.  I have liked them ever since AMT offered them back in the '70s.  But, I can't think of anyone that presently makes a holster for one.  You will have to get something custom made to carry it in.  That's not a bad thing, just an inconvienence, unless you like the look of your barrel hanging out the bottom of your holster.  44 Man

I know that I can look it up, but does the long slide have exclusions from ipsc or other organizations in competition?  I mainly shoot plates and pins, but am looking into shooting practical pistol.

I have a Springfield Long Slide V16. Very accurate and reliable. Looks cool. A little muzzle heavy, but i like that, helps control recoil. I bought the 6" to make it legal to deer hunt with In WI. It also doubles as a home defense tool.

It's IDPA William, that requires the pistol fit into the box to be legal for competition. There's pretty much a class for anything in USPSA.

you cannot shoot the 6" in single stack division of USPSA. They took the rules from the Single Stack Classic. For a time Rob Leatham shot a 6" Springfield in USPSA Limited division. The 6" is legal for most USPSA pistol division.

Sprigfield use to make a longslide in 45acp/45 super.They also make just a longslide in 45acp that looks exactly like the super model.Just what makes one shoot 45 super but not the other?
