How did I do, 454 Casull Raging bull
« on: April 08, 2009, 04:51:10 PM »
I had a buddy call me  2 days ago, and said a guys was selling an almost new Taurus Raging bull 454 Casull for $550. I told him I was going to pass, well today I get a call and the guy really needs some money, his hours were cut, and needs money and only wants $400 for the gun. It was only shot 14 times and has the box and paper work as well as a zippered case with it and 6 rounds of ammo.

Now I am not the biggest Taurus fan, but I could not pass it up. I have a Taurus Judge that I like a lot, as well as a model 94.2 22 L/R revolver, that shoots like a dream.

So how do you think I did on this, and what is the going price on one of these?  ;D

Don't see how you can lose - if you don't like it you can always sell it and make a few bucks!!

I really like mine (also like new) and I paid 550 for it three or four years ago. A lot of people bought them and couldn't handle them.

If it is blued you got a really good deal, if it is stainless you ripped the poor guy off.

I think the raging bull series are the one Taurus gun (of newer manufacture) that are still built well. My opinion, no flames please.

I have one of those 94's also another excellent gun

Taurus has a bad reputation. I have a friend that has several and loves them. He says you get more gun for the money. I know of one person here that thinks differently ;)

Let us know how she shoots.

I just don't know how long I am going to keep it. I shoot my custom guns a lot more that I think I will shoot this one.

I couldn't believe the accuracy we got out of a 454 raging bull.  My grandfather got one for a plinker and we had it on a rest shooting it at 25 yds sighting in.  I shot a 5 shot group at 25 yds- 1 inch ragged hole.

What brand of ammo were you using?

Redhawk - I've sold a few Raging Bulls at the store over the years and have yet to hear a complaint about accuracy or reliability. Here's +1 on a terrific deal, even if you had to wear a "ski mask" ;D!  I always thought that if I ever added a .454 to my collection it would have to be the Taurus, I can't tolerate the recoil of any other brand (without ports!) and I like the "triple lock".

This was reloaded ammo, 240gr hornady xtp mag in front of 37.5 grs. of lilgun.  I would mention it hates 240 sierra jacketed hollow points with the same charge.

mine is five years old and paid $580 new. The shop had two a blued & stainless. A metalurgist that happened to be there told me that the carbon steel blued one would be a stronger frame than the stainless, so thats what I got. Have shot alot of stout reloads with no issuse. Shot a big doe at 45yd. and it scambled the whole insides turning everything to jello. No other gun I've used had done that! After about ten rounds you'll wish you had a hocky mask on.
RIP Mike. Died on July 14th, around 2am, with his family at his side, he went peacefully to be with god.
