They should be OK, just do not push the upper limits of pressure - You may get blown primers. You may get your best accuracy if you are not at top pressures anyway, that is often the case. You will just have to try them. The cup thickness of the Rem 7 1/2 is thicker and handles the higher pressures better. BTW the Remington 7 1/2 primer was developed for the 17 Remington to handle the pressures it generates.

Remington, on their online help center, says not to use 6 1/2s with the 17, 222 or 223 Remington and instead the 7 1/2.  It does not differentiate between bolt or semi-auto rifles.  My old Hornady manual called for 6 1/2s the current edition calls out 7 1/2s.  May be a semi-auto thing, I don't know.

That being said, I found with what I shoot, NEF and T/C 223s with 50gr and under bullets and both ball and stick powders, I get better accuracy consistently with the 6 1/2 primers.  I don't generally push the upper limits (brass wants to be trimmed after every loading when I do) and have had no problems.  YMMV.

You of course alone have to decide for yourself...

Thanks for the info quys!!! I was only going to use 45 gr Hornaday Hornets. I don't load for speed, always accuracy anyway. I have other powders other than Win 748 on the shelf to use. My concern was that 748, being a ball powder, would I get good ignition.  Loaded up 20 rounds so will see what happens? I will be using a NEF Rifle so the lock up should be of no concern. Thanks agin Zeak
