Ya gotta say black powder cannon to stay on topic, so you should have said something like, "this wouldn't fit in my cannon so..."  Then you would be on topic. But now that I have said that we are back on topic. :)

We are always proud of the job our GI's have done to keep our country free.  We were hoping however to see some smoke and fire...

Is that the rocket that is used in the MLRS?  Sure come a long way from the Congreave and Hale rockets...

As long as you can state that no scorpions or snakes were harmed during the making of this film, then we could watch it.   ;D ;D

Mike and Tracy
Smokin' my pipe on the mountings, sniffin' the mornin'-cool,
I walks in my old brown gaiters along o' my old brown mule,
With seventy gunners be'ind me, an' never a beggar forgets
It's only the pick of the Army that handles the dear little pets - 'Tss! 'Tss!

Unfortunately, us Air Force guys do not speak Army. If you are referring to the big Osh Kosk truck that the Army uses for everything from towing to hauling cargo. Yes. This one rear ended another during a sandstorm going into Baghdad. SOP is to destroy the munitions rather than having something happen during use.

We were at 3/4 of mile during detonation. I could not even see the rocket any more but when it went off, well, I just can't explain it. Then the shock wave hit about 3 seconds later. You could see it running across the desert just like the movies.

Well, how much cannon grade Holy Black would it take to make a similar BOOM?

And, if you were to try to lauch that thing from a tube, how many pounds of it would you need to send it 5000 yards?

I came off a M977 or M1075. I cannot find a picture with that system on it. Unfortuantely all my pictures from the war were ruined by the continuous sandstorms.

England's William Congreve was inspired to design rockets by his knowledge of East Indian military forces using martial rockets with good effect against British troops in battles of the latter 1700's; Congreve's design was improved upon by William Hale in the 1850's. Congreve rockets were used by invading British forces against American targets in the War of 1812.

"Plate 13 from The Rocket System by Sir William Congreve (published 1814) shows the various Congreve Rockets. One of the medium sized bombardment rockets designed by Congreve was the 32 Pounder Carcass, which has a rocket head approximately three feet in length and requires a 15 foot stick. This 32 Pounder was the smallest rocket used as a carcass in bombardment and the largest armed with either shot or shell for field service. It quickly became the most widely used model."
RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

Rocklock, that's one of the first things that caught my eye on that sheet, and notice how those creative Brits even managed to design the parachute so it resembles an open umbrella. :D
