One day I want to go up north, mate.
But I already have my T3 in 9.3x62 for that trip.
A 45-70 double, especially limited to low lever action loads as the Baikal is, isn't ideal for buffs.
I intend to shoot, well, anything I feel like with it.
Good for deer and pigs and goats out to about 150m.

Cheers & God Bless

Those Baikal double rifles in 45.70 are an intriging rifle for the money . I read somewhere that some europeon custom gunsmiths use the Baikal actions as a base for there high dollar customs . A mate of mine has the single shot in 7.62 X 39 , very handy hunting rifle . He just left his stock and it's worn in pretty smooth , I quite like the trigger on his rifle . He tried a Leupold variable scope on it but prefers the handling of his rifle with open sight's .

The original black powder 45.70 with a 405 gr bullet and quickly followed with a 500 gr load did a pretty fair job on Bison . With modern powder and steels I am positive you could exceed the originals performance and stay well inside safe pressure for the Baikal . I know Asiatic Buffalo are bigger and more solid but I would be very comfortable hunting them with a cast 400 gr pill trundling along at 1650 fps generates under 30 000 psi . Im sure a Baikel could handle that . Either way I would look close and buy a rifle that can handle the power a full tilt 45.70 can generate .

While I understand the enough gun argument and dream of owning a Chapius or Blaser double rifle in .375 H & H in my opinion can not see why a 45.70 with appropiate projectiles isn't enough gun on Asiatic Buffalo . I'm just a old fashioned type I guess , what did the job for my forefathers will do the job today .

I have started saving as I want to buy myself a 45.70 rifle next year . I am intrigued with the Ruger No 1 or even a NEF Buffalo Classic but likely will head down the Lever route .

Good to know that your mate is happy with his rifle jacko. When i was originally going down the single shot path i was looking for a 7.62x54r (has similar ballistics to a .308 but rimmed, i have been told that in a break action rifle rimmed cases are the way to go) but found no one imported them in that calibre. So i got it in .308 and to think about it... it would be a nice change to have my main rifle in a calibre that i can get off the shelf at most gun stores and not have it dug up from some famers field in the Ukraine.
We will see how this project go’s and hopefully this rifle (my poor mans K95) will be ready in two months time (got a Carl Zeiss scope travelling from the states).

I see that you can get .45-70 inserts for the Baikal side by side shotguns, interesting idea but i would doubt it would be as accurate as a side by side rifle.

Kombi do you have any pictures of your Sportco martini cadet in .22 Hornet and if you don’t mind me asking how much did you pick it up for? I was looking for one about a year ago and could only find them in .22 LR.
