Another turkey with the Pardner
« on: May 08, 2009, 09:02:30 AM »
This bird makes number four for the 20 ga. Pardner in just a few yrs.
There's still a couple days left in our season, so hopefully I can fill my last tag.

Congrats on a nice bird. Just out of curiosity, what choke does your scattergun have. Mine has a mod. choke and patterns pretty well and has taken a couple of turkeys. One at 28 yrds and one at 32 yrds. I don't think I will try much past the 32 yrds tho.

This one has a full choke, snakeman, and will pattern nicely out to 30 yds.
Beyond that and you might as well pass up the shot and wait for em to get closer.
I like no. 6 shot best out of mine, 5's open up a bit much.

Try the new Federal Flitecontrol 20ga ammo, it'll make that full choke gun an honest 35-40yd turkey gun, depending on the load, the #6 Heavyweight does excellent in my modified Pardner, I have some #7 Heavyweight to shoot later this week thru a Trulock full tube in my TDC, I'm anxious to see what it does at 40yds, I emailed Federal for their recommended constriction for the FC ammo, they recommended a full choke, so your Pardner should do great with it. The #7 Heavyweight has the same energy at 40yds as #5 lead, and a LOT more pellets. The only caveat is the price,  lead FC ammo is a lot cheaper, $9-$13 for 10 compared to $17 for 5 of the Heavyweight.  :-\

Thanks for the links Tim. I have shot the flight control wads in 12 ga and they do well. The black cloud ammo works great on the ducks I have shot with it. I wish they would come out with some 20 ga loads. I used my pardner 20 ga for ducks last year and ended the season with 134 ducks total and I lost less than 10 birds.

Federal makes Black Cloud 20ga ammo, it's new tho and subject to availability, should be available by duck season.  ;)

That is outstanding news. I checked on the federal site for it earlier and didn't find it. Of course I am not so gifted when it comes to computers. Either that or I am an idiot and just missed it.  ::)

I too use the Federal Flightcontrol ,great shooting, They may seem high priced, but here in Michigan we are only allowed to take one Turkey so that is only one shell. So a box of five will last five years!

iceman,
That is one of the brand new ones from Remington. It seems like a fair price for it. They are $117 at Wally World. I would see if you can talk the guy down a few bucks. You never know.
