Browing X-Bolt question
« on: May 05, 2011, 05:39:16 AM »
I am considering a X-Bolt in 300 WSM. Anyone have one that can coment on how accurate they are, and if they are happy with the fit and functioning of the rifle. Thanks.

I have one in 300 wsm. Shoots great 3/4 inch 100 yds with  federal 180 gr barnes x bullets. Recoils straight back instead of up which is nice. Trigger is crisp at 3.5 lbs per my Lyman trigger pull gauge.

squeeze it, don't pull it!!!!

Got a X-Bolt Hunter in 270 Win and absolutely love the rifle.  Don't think you can wrong with the X-Bolt.

I have an A-Bolt in 300WSM. I do like the 23" barrel as opposed to the more common 24" for most 300WSM's. The Brownings are usually lighter than other choices, that may add some to recoil. I load my own though & I'm usually loaded down some.

I have an X-Bolt Stainless Stalker in 22-250, really nice trigger, will shoot <1" @ 100yds with factory Hornady ammo.  I really like the rifle, nice to carry and very nice to shoot.

Thanks for the help. I saw an old Field& Stream article from July 2008 that had  compared several rifles and how accurate they were. The X-Bolt came in 6th place. The weatherby VangardSub-MOA came in first, the T/C Icon came in 2nd,and the Savage Model 14 came in 3rd.

I know this thread's a little old, but I thought I'd note that the Field & Stream article is available to read on Google Books.  Here's a URL that will at least get you close:
http://books.google.com/books?id=Odednru98DQC&pg=PA96&lpg=PA96&dq=field+%26+stream+july+2008&source=bl&ots=7XT7v63nG-&sig=FYJIZ-4ZFkgxoNuA523pTrnfn1k&hl=en&ei=cN1fTqfsEtDKiALLwImwDg&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=7&ved=0CEYQ6AEwBg#v=onepage&q=field%20%26%20stream%20july%202008&f=true

In essence, the Wby had the smallest group size, but a large spread between smallest and avg.  The Browning was extremely consistent from smallest to average size, and frankly I expect that there is no significant difference between several of those rifles.  The Browning was also a 270 WSM, whereas the smallest shooters were 30-cals shooting FGMM ammo (no such thing for a 270 WSM, is there?).
