Marlin 1894 Question
« on: March 31, 2009, 01:13:30 PM »
I own a mid-70's Marlin 1894, and...........

Just wondering if anyone has installed a Burris Steel Dovetail base #410216 on a Marlin 1894 ?
It shows compatible with all of the Marlin Lever Rifles, except the 1894. :-\

Already have a Weaver (alloy) base on the rifle, and was thinking; either install the Burris Zee rings on that base, or preferably, install the Burris dovetail style steel base and rings, which I prefer.

Anyone have input??

It is.....what it is...

Howdy,
I really like the Z-Rings! They make a cleaner installation than the original Weavers. I have only mounted one scope using the Redfield-type mount and it was more work than I feel is needed for what you're doing. Do you have a ring-lapping tool? I think you will be well served by the Weaver-type rings.

www.opticsplanet.com

Look at the Burris Signature Zee rings.  I have purchased a set for every rifle that I own since getting the the first set.  No need to lap them and with the offset bushing set it's possible to get just about any rifle within a few inches of perfect zero without using the scope adjustments.  Optics Planet has the best price I've found on them by several dollars and they usually get the order out and I have it in my hands within 5 days.

Even if you decide on the dovetail style, I'd still recommend a set of the Signature rings.

Burris Z rings are really really great! I only discoverd them about 4 years ago. You won't be disappointed.

The "Signature" is the important part.  I replaced a set of regular Zee rings with a set of Signature Zee.  As good as the Zee rings are, the Signature are that much better.  The round profiled inserts allow the scope to automatically align with the centerline of the mount without lapping and without stressing the scope tube.  All three of the rifles that have the signature rings on them were on the paper at 100yds with the scope adjustments centered only requiring a few minor adjustments for a perfect zero.  I'll never buy anything else again.
