anyone have a springfield emp?

thinking im going to pick one up in .40. Just wondering if youve had good luck with yours?

I had one in the 9 mm but sold it later.  I shot my Kimber Pro Raptor better than the emp.  At that time there weren't very many holsters being made for it either.  Who knows, maybe I will get another one someday.  Probably will go with the 40 cal as well.

It functioned fine - no Failures to feed or fire.

thanks thats what i was looking for. Im more of a kimber and colt guy myself and have had lots of problems with the springfields ive had in the past. I mostly wanted to know if the gun ran well and you answered that. I think it would make an ideal ccw gun.

I have never owned a spring field. Considered one for the latest build because I knew that the internals were going. Went with the Colt because of price and LW Commander thing.
Some/alot of folks love em, right out of the box.
They seem to put out a nice looking product.

Nice gun, well made. But... I'm a bit disappointed that it is not smaller than it is. To me it's the same size as an LDA or most other single-stack 3" 1911s.  I realize there is something like 1/4" sectioned out of the grip through the slide, but in my hand it doesn't make much diff.
   I'd like to see someone make a 1911 that is completely downsized -shrunk in every dimension - around the 9mm cartridge.  The slide does not have to be almost 1" wide, nor as tall as it is.  It should wind up similar in size to a Star SS. The Spaniards did this sort of thing very well for the .380 cartridge.

ive had probably a dozen of them over the years and have had more problems with them then any other 1911. It seems i either get one that shoots well and chokes on everything or shoots minute of barn door and runs reliably. I just got sick of sending them back to be fixed. Once a self defense pistol makes me loose confidence in it i have to just peddle it. Ive had quite a few colts and kimbers and other then normal wear things on a gun that has over 50000 rounds thorugh it ive never had a problem. I have to give the kimbers a slight edge in accuracy over a typical colt but my gold cup might make me a lier there. I guess my favorite is hands down a colt. If for no other reason that a 1911 should have colt on it. One thing to keep in mind is that alot of these springfields were older guns and ive noticed a big differnce in the fit and finish of the newer ones. Some of those old ones were just rattlely junk.

thats one thing im kind of on the fence about. the crimson trace kimber is not much bigger its a 45 and it actually weights less. Ive just wanted a small 1911 in 40 more because ive got a ton of brass and bullets that i dont use much. If kimber made that little gun of theres in .40 id probably go that route

I don't know anything but what I read.
There seems to be limitaions on size with respect to reliability.

i had a cdp 3 inch kimber i foolishly sold and it never missed a beat. I think the major problem comes from the cheap small guns. Ive read for years that even commander sized guns arent reliable. Well id like some of those internet experts to come and shoot a couple of my commanders!!

Held one at a gun show last weekend, not enough size difference to replace my or the wife's Kimber Ultracarry's. Both have been very reliable. Much less the caliber difference.

I have one, or I should say my wife now has one in 9mm.  I really liked the gun, but she liked it more.  Traded me her Colt Nightlite for it.  It does not like Fiocchi ammo at all.  Loves the Winchester white boxes from Wally World.  And shoots self-defense ammo well.  Ours (hers) is a very accurate pistol.  I liked the feel of it better than the Kimber.

Have been away for some time here, hence the late reply.  I've owned an EMP for approx. 1&1/2 yrs. It's a bit finicky w/self-defense ammo. It can shoot 147gr. Rem. golden sabre both accurately and reliably.  It's a bit too big for pocket carry; but does well under the waist band and of course on the belt. The sights line up beautifully for my 52 yr old eyes; day or night.  My off hand shooting improves when I shoot this pistol too.
